IPTV Player Recommendation for Android TV Box – Experience with TiviMate, OTT Navigator or Smarters?
Editorially created example; not a verified reader submission or our own device test. The question describes a possible usage scenario.
Editorial example question
Hi everyone, I recently bought an Android TV Box (Xiaomi Mi Box S) and am looking for a stable IPTV player. My playlist uses Xtream Codes, and I need EPG and a recording function. Do you have any recommendations? I am choosing between TiviMate, OTT Navigator, and Smarters. It should not be too expensive, but quality is more important to me. Thanks for your tips.
Android TV box: Which player suits Xtream, EPG, and recording?
For this example question, TiviMate is a reasonable first candidate: its developer explicitly lists Android TV, remote control, Xtream Codes, and recording features. OTT Navigator is also worth considering; its guide explains EPG and recording in more detail. With Smarters, first identify the specific Android TV app. This assessment is based on manufacturer information; it is not a hands-on comparison test and does not promise that every feature will work on your box.
Evaluate the three options with specific checks
| Player | Documented approach | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| TiviMate | Designed for Android TV and remote control. The Play Store listing mentions Xtream Codes, M3U, and recording, among other features. | Current access to the features you need, device availability, and recording destination. The store lists in-app purchases. |
| OTT Navigator | The developer documents Xtream setup, EPG, and recording; according to the FAQ, recording has been part of Premium since version 1.7.5.2. | Installed version, accessible storage, and the number of simultaneous connections allowed by your content access provider. |
| Smarters Pro | The official manufacturer website links to a dedicated Android TV app. | Check the exact app name and publisher. Verify EPG and recording in that specific version; a platform listing alone does not confirm these features. |
Feature lists do not provide a channel source. The three manufacturers present their products as players; buying an app and getting access to content are separate matters. Use only lawful access that you are entitled to use.
How to check your box before committing to a longer subscription
- Note the model and software: Open the device information. Record the model, system version, and app version. A similar-looking box or a smartphone screenshot does not prove that your combination will work.
- Try the remote control: Check whether you can use the channel list, search, back button, and program guide without an extra mouse. Choose based on this workflow instead of comparing only a long feature list.
- Set up your own access: Use the input format actually provided by your content provider. An M3U address and separate Xtream fields are different ways to enter details. Enter credentials in the app, not in public comments or screenshots.
- Test the EPG separately: Check titles, times, and channel mapping for a few channels. If video plays but the program guide is empty, the setup has not been fully checked. Our playlist and EPG guide walks you through the next checks.
- Check a short, permitted recording: Choose suitable content, check available storage, make a short recording, and then play it back. Next, check a scheduled recording using the power settings you plan to use. A visible record button does not prove that recording works.
Why recording and watching another channel at the same time need separate checks
In OTT Navigator, recording uses a provider connection: if only one stream is allowed, you cannot watch another channel from the same source at the same time. The box must stay awake for scheduled recordings. These conditions apply to OTT Navigator; they are not a guarantee about other players.
Before deciding, note three results: does your access work, does the remote suit you, and can you play back a permitted recording? If these checks pass, you can compare costs and extra features meaningfully. If playback stutters, see the playback troubleshooting guide; the Android device overview covers other options.
Sources and context
Manufacturer information checked on 25 October 2026. Prices, feature access, and device availability may change. No hands-on device testing; no user responses invented.
How to make an informed decision
Check your exact device and operating system first, then the features you need and the app’s official store listing. For troubleshooting, record the source, app version and next reproducible check.
